VIGAN FIESTA

 Vigan Fiesta

It was fun having to see the culture so bright and joyous.

The year 2026 marks a momentous milestone for the Heritage City of Vigan as it celebrates its Silver Jubilee—25 years of cityhood. This landmark anniversary has elevated the annual Vigan City Fiesta and Longganisa Festival from a local tradition into a grand national spectacle. Nestled within the cobblestone streets of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the festival is a sensory explosion that marries deep-seated Spanish colonial history with the vibrant, garlicky pulse of Ilocano culture.

The festival officially kicks off around January 22, commemorating Vigan’s cityhood, and culminates on January 25, the feast day of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle. The city’s historic core, particularly Calle Crisologo, transforms into a stage for the much-anticipated Street Dancing Competition.

In 2026, the energy was palpable as contingents from various schools and neighboring municipalities performed in elaborate costumes that paid homage to both the longganisa industry and the city’s patron saint. Dancers moved to the rhythmic beat of drums, their movements mimicking the stuffing and tying of the sausages, ensuring that the labor of the local manag-longganisa (longganisa makers) is honored through art.

Then, high school year comes-- Although, I am still adjusting to my environment. I'm still the curious, noisy girl that befriended everybody. that loud, cheerful girl-- Suddenly, that spark in me flickered and die...
